Britain’s Favourite Airline is…
December 2007

… Singapore Airlines… according to the results of a study led by Pat. The study, which included the views of over two thousand participants, also placed Malaysian Airlines, Emirates and Virgin Atlantic in the top 5, along with budget carrier Jet 2.
Patrick said, “Singapore Airlines demonstrated excellence right across the board, but what really stood out was the courtesy, professionalism and efficiency of their staff. Their success is clear evidence of how important it is to put the customer experience right at the heart of your business strategy.”
The full results of the study will be published next year.
Defending Fair Trade
December 2007
Patrick has defended the Fair Trade movement against media criticism that it is creating price distortion in the international commodity markets.
In a keynote address at the University of the Third Age he said, “Some analysts argue that Fair Trade approaches keep prices artificially high, but I don’t see it that way."
"Fair Trade has become a strong brand in its own right, a brand with values that people are prepared to buy into. Like any strong brand people are prepared to pay more for products with the Fair Trade label. There is nothing artificial about that. That’s simply market forces at work.”
China Talks
December 2007
Patrick has recently returned from China where he addressed business, marketing and design audiences in a series of three lectures.
Speaking at User Friendly 2007 in Beijing he said, “This is an important time for China and a time of immense opportunity. In today’s economy success depends on understanding people.”
“We really have to get to know them, to understand their hopes, their fears, their dreams and their aspirations. If Chinese industry can do that and create products that meet people’s needs then we can expect to see accelerated growth and the establishment of major Chinese brands in the international marketplace.”
Drivers and Driving
December 2007
Patrick has completed a segmentation of drivers based on their attitudes, behaviours and driving skills and abilities.
Patrick said, “the study revealed that the safest drivers on our roads are a group that I refer to as ‘Diligent Drivers’. These drivers consider safety before speed, drive courteously, but still make good progress within the speed limits.”
“If we can encourage more people to drive like this our roads will be a safer, more pleasant place for us all.”
The study, which forms part of a major international road safety project, will be published in full in April 2008.
