Optimizing the Retail Experience
April 2008

Patrick is to lead a major new project looking at retail and the customer experience. Using a combination of survey data and case studies, the project will identify the stores that offer the best and worst retail experiences in the UK and define what separates an excellent retail experience from an average or poor one.
Pat says, “The strength of the retail sector is vital to the health of any developed economy and the more pleasant and enjoyable people’s experience of shopping, the better retailers will do. The aim of this project is to look at which retailers are currently offering the best shopping experience and which are offering the worst and to establish recommendations and guidelines based on this.”
P&G Projects Completed
April 2008
This month saw the completion of two major projects that Patrick has been consulting on for Procter and Gamble, one in the USA and the other in the UK. Both projects have been highly successful and have involved innovative new product development in consumer goods markets.
Pat said, “Obviously the specifics of the projects are still confidential at this stage but P&G are delighted with the outcomes and I am delighted and honoured that they selected me to advise them. It is always a joy to work with them and their professionalism and knowledge of their markets is exceptional.”
Design in Services Conference
April 2008
Patrick is to be Keynote Speaker at the Design in Services conference which will be held in Riga, Latvia in October 2008. In his talk Pat look at the lifestyle trends that are impacting people’s lives and on the implications of these for the service sector.
He says, “Understanding people is at the core of successful design and a major part of this is knowing about their lifestyles. When we understand people’s behaviours and the attitudes and values that drive them we are able to design great services that not only meet people’s needs but which also connect with them emotionally.”
We will post more information on this event as it becomes available.
Four Pleasures Lectures
April 2008
Patrick has just returned home after a two week ‘mini-tour’ lecturing on the Four Pleasures. Events included a workshop at the Ergonomics Society Conference and keynote speeches at the Forrester Marketing Forum in Los Angles and the Nordcode conference in Skovde, Sweden.
He said, “The Four Pleasures has become a highly successful tool for understanding people and for designing great products and services. It is now widely used by the most successful companies in industry and it is very pleasing to have the opportunity to tell more people about it.”
