Forrester’s Marketing Forum
January 2008

Patrick has been confirmed as a keynote speaker at this year’s Forrester’s Marketing Forum to be held in Los Angeles on 8-9 April.
Pat will be talking about how to engage effectively with consumers to create products, services and brands that achieve success by connecting with people’s practical and emotional needs.
He said, “The most effective companies are those that have a deep understanding of people, not only in terms of how and why they use products but also in terms of how they want to feel about themselves. The key to success is to treat consumers with respect and that means really getting to know them and what they want from your products and brand.”
Forrester’s Forum is considered to be America’s premier marketing conference, with an international audience which includes Chief Executives from many of the world’s leading brands.
Packaging Innovations
January 2008
Patrick has been confirmed as a speaker at this year’s Packaging Innovations event, which will be held in the UK’s National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham on 12-13 March this year.
Pat said, “Creating effective packaging can be a complex business as it requires the balancing of a variety of different, sometimes competing needs. Creating emotional impact on the shelf is one of these, but there are also a wide variety of practical issues that we need to factor in such as security, transportation and protecting the product from damage.”
Britain’s Least Favourite Airline Is…
January 2008
…Aeroflot. Russia’s national airline scored lowest of all the airlines rated by participants in Pat’s airlines study. Other low scorers were Air France, Delta, Iberia and JMC Airlines.
Patrick said, “The factor that people most commonly cited as affecting their perception of an airline was the attitudes and behaviour of the flight staff, followed by the quality of the food, in-flight comfort and entertainment, and punctuality.”
The study was based on passenger ratings and comments gathered over a five-year period. The top rated airlines can be seen in our December news archive.
Inclusive Design
January 2008
Patrick will be a guest lecturer on this year’s Inclusive Design Master’s module at Cranfield University which looks at how to create products that are attractive and appealing both for people with disabilities and for non-disabled people.
He said, “Inclusive design is about democracy and decency and also makes perfect sense financially. It is creating products that are usable and appealing for as wide a range of people as possible. Not only does that give people with disabilities the same range of choices as others, it also helps companies to widen their potential markets.”
Patrick was co-founder of the Include Conference, Europe’s premier inclusive design event, which is held biannually at the Royal College of Art.
