Cambridge University Seminar
October 2008

Next month Patrick will be giving a seminar at the University of Cambridge to an audience of academic staff and researchers. The topic of the seminar is still to be decided but will be announced within the next two weeks.
Patrick said, “It is a great honour to be asked to address such a great university, especially in view of the great work that they are doing in the area of inclusive design.”
Pat is co-founder of Include, Europe’s premier conference on inclusive design to which many at the University of Cambridge are regular contributors.
Media Interviews
October 2008
Patrick has just completed a series of media interviews with newspaper and magazine journalists on a range of subjects including design and emotion, branding, marketing and innovation.
When asked by German magazine Raumbrand about the importance of the emotional qualities of products, he said, “Designing emotionally engaging products is an issue for any consumer-facing industry. Historically emotion has become a major factor within an industry once the technology associated with the industry has matured. Before this, factors such as having the most up to date functionality may have been more of an issue, but once companies are largely even on functionality then emotion becomes the major differentiator. This is pretty much the case now in most major industry sectors.”
For a full version of the interview in English please contact us and will e-mail you a copy for free. Extracts from this interview will appear in the November edition of Raumbrand. We will release full versions of some of the other interviews next month.
Videos Online
October 2008
Patrick’s lecture at last month’s Visions to Solutions conference in Estonia is now available to view online. The lecture looked at the latest trends in society and the market and their effects on development and innovation within information communication technology (ICT). You can see the video by clicking here.
Patrick has also recorded an introductory message for his keynote talk at the InnoLatvia conference later this month. This can be viewed here.
Human Factors Event in Sweden
October 2008
Patrick was a keynote speaker at the conference The Human Factor which was held in Gothenburg Sweden earlier this month. The event attracted a wide audience from both industry and academia and the high-demand to attend meant that it was significantly oversubscribed.
Patrick’s talk looked at the topic of design and emotion, running through the most significant theories and developments in the area over the last ten years and gave numerous examples of products and services which connect with consumers in an emotionally engaging manner.
An information sheet is available giving the key points of the lecture and summarising several of the major theories and frameworks associated with emotional design. For a free copy of the information sheet please contact us and we will e-mail one to you.
