Appointment to Automotive Advisory Boards

March 2009

Patrick has been appointed to the advisory boards of both Nissan and Renault. The companies have signed an agreement to cooperate in certain aspects of their businesses and Patrick’s appointment comes as part of this initiative.

Patrick said, “This is a very challenging time for the automotive industry, but both Nissan and Renault are demonstrating tremendous vision in their plans for the future. Both companies make great vehicles and that is – and always will be – the key to success, whatever the prevailing market conditions.”

It has been announced that Patrick will be one of the speakers at this year’s Fresh Thinking event hosted by Ardagh Glass on 20 May 2009. Patrick said, “Packaging is a hugely important factor in a product’s success, especially in the fast moving consumer goods market. Through understanding consumers and demonstrating creativity in design we can create aspirational packaging that will give a competitive advantage in the marketplace.”

Health in Caravan Parks

March 2009

Patrick has been commissioned to carry out a research project looking at the health and wellbeing of people who live in caravan parks. The project is being carried out in the north of England and is funded by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

Patrick said, “It is hugely to the credit of East Riding of Yorkshire Council that they are funding this research. Surveys have shown consistently that people who live in caravan parks have more health problems than the general population. This research will give us the opportunity to understand why that is and what we can do to help address the issue.”

Health in Prisons

March 2009

Patrick has just completed a government funded research project looking at health issues in prisons.

Patrick said, “Many people enter prison with a variety of health problems such as drug addiction, alcohol abuse and mental health issues. Often these problems will be dealt with effectively in prison and they will leave prison healthier than they have ever been. The problem is that many quickly slip back into unhealthy ways when leaving and that is a problem that we need to address.”

“There seems to be a strong link between health problems and the likelihood of reoffending, so we need to work with the probation service and the health trusts to tackle both things together.”
