Delivering Excellent Service

April 2010

Patrick will be putting service under the spotlight on one of his radio shows this month. His guest on Friday 16 April will be Rachel Sweet, a leading expert on how to deliver top quality service and keep customers satisfied.

Last year Patrick gave the keynote address at a conference on the subject of service which was organised by the Charity Commission. He said, “For anyone who works in business, or indeed in the public sector, it is vital that we provide the highest quality of service to our customers. Not only is good service key to retaining customers, it is also a part of the duty of care and respect that we owe the people we serve.”

Patrick’s show airs weekly on Friday mornings on 10 Radio, from 11.30 to 12.00, with repeats Monday evening from 7.30 to 8.00. Please click here for this month’s schedule.

Demographics, Media and Technology

April 2010

Patrick has completed his research into demographics and the use of media and technology. The research was commissioned by DotGovLabs on behalf of a number of government departments who will use the findings as part of a strategy to disseminate information and engage with the public more effectively.

The results demonstrated the potential of new media such as the internet, mobile phones and social networking applications, in particular for reaching younger people and those of a higher socio-economic status. However, it also highlighted the vital role played by traditional media such as telephone, TV and radio, especially amongst an older demographic.

Patrick’s report will be made publicly available in due course. As soon as this happens we will announce it on this site.

British Psychological Society Lectures

April 2010

This month, Patrick will be giving two lectures to the British Psychological Society (BPS) on the Principles of Success.

Both lectures are based on the findings of Positive Psychology, a sub-branch of psychology which looks at the attitudes and behaviours associated with success.

Patrick said, “Unlike much of the self-help literature, Positive Psychology takes a rigorous, scientific approach to understanding how we can maximise our levels of success and wellbeing. This lecture identifies the five key principles of success, the key studies behind them and tools and techniques for applying them in our own lives.”

The first lecture will be at the BPS Annual Conference on Thursday 15 April at 7.00 pm at a special event which is open to all BPS Conference attendees.

The second lecture, scheduled for Bristol on Wednesday 21 April is already sold out. However, Patrick will be giving the same lecture in nearby Bath on the evening of 19 April. For details click here.
