British Psychological Society Success Workshop
January 2011

Patrick will be running a British Psychological Society workshop on the Principles of Success. It will take place in Bristol on Saturday 26 February 2011. This event follows two sold-out talks on the subject that Patrick gave at the British Psychological Society.
During the workshop, participants will learn about each of the five Principles of Success and why they work, as well as a set of practical tools and techniques for applying them to all aspects of their professional and personal lives.
Patrick said, "The content of the workshop draws on over 10 years of research within the discipline of Positive Psychology. This gives it a scientifically valid basis that is lacking in much of the popular self-help genre. Not only will participants gain an understanding of why some people achieve a higher level of success and wellbeing than others, they will also be given the tools to apply these findings to their own lives and to help others do the same."
Public Lecture Postponements
January 2011
Due to unforeseen work commitments Patrick has had to postpone three public lectures that were scheduled for this month. They are:
The Principles of Success, Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, Balderstone (Lancashire), 19 January 2011
The Four Pleasures, City University, London, 20 January 2011
The Principles of Success, Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, Portsmouth 25 January 2011
Our sincere apologies for these postponements. As soon as we have rescheduled dates we will post them on this site.
Quality of Life Paper Update
January 2011
Patrick is working on an updated version of his quality of life paper “The Good Society Framework”. The original version of the paper was published by the International Society for Quality of Life Studies (ISQOLS).
Patrick said, “I am very grateful to ISQOLS for publishing the paper and to all those who have read the paper and given me feedback. The aim is to create a framework for studying quality of life which is as comprehensive and useful as possible and we now have a great deal of additional information to include in the next version.”
When the next version is completed we will post details on this website.
User-Centred Design Podcast
January 2011
The University of Derby have commissioned Patrick to create a podcast on the subject of user centred design. The podcast will cover a wide variety of issues including why some products are more emotionally engaging than others and why some have the ‘X-Factor’ while others do not.
The podcast is for the use of students on the University’s MSc course in Ergonomics.
Patrick said, “I have started work on the podcast. The questions are very interesting and thought-provoking. I hope the students find it valuable and get as much enjoyment out of listening to it as I am having making it.”
Central St Martins Master's Projects
January 2011
Central St Martins College of Art and Design have appointed Patrick as an external tutor for this year’s mid-project critique for master’s students in both industrial design and textiles.
The crit will take place on 12 January 2011.
Patrick said, “It a great pleasure to be involved with Central St Martins. The level of creativity displayed by the students always impresses me as does the depth of the research. I am very much looking forward to seeing what they are working on this year.”
Patrick has a long running association with Central St Martins, where he is also an Associate Lecturer.
