Workplace Ergonomics and Productivity Seminar, 26, 27 Oct. 2011

May 2011

Patrick will be an invited speaker at the inaugural Workplace Ergonomics and Productivity conference and exhibition which will be held in London on 26 and 27 October 2011.

Patrick’s talk will focus on the psychosocial aspects of ergonomics and productivity.

He said, “The physical environment that people work in is very important in terms of helping them to be productive and avoid work-related injuries. However, evidence suggests that the social and psychological aspects of the environment are even more important.”

“If people feel valued in their workplace and enjoy coming to work they will be more productive, less stressed and less likely to take time off due to illness.”

Inclusive Bus Travel Research

May 2011

The research phase of the Inclusive Bus Project led by Brunel University’s Inclusive Design Research Group on behalf of Hillingdon Borough Council and Transport for London is now complete.

This phase involved analysing the quality of experience of older and disabled people’s bus journeys within the borough and creating recommendations for how they could be improved.

Patrick has been involved in the research and, with Maria Ana Neves, is also one half of the project’s advisory board.

He said, “The research phase uncovered a number of important issues that need to be addressed if we are to optimise the bus travel experience of disabled and older people within the borough. These included both physical issues associated with the design of the bus and the built environment and psychosocial issues such as the social ambience on the bus.”

The next phase of the project will take place in autumn this year and will involve implementing the findings of the research on a bus route.
